Founded on 2018 in San José, California, by environmentalist Richard Tejeda, Saved By Nature is a direct response to several significant problems facing his communities.
Saved By Nature believes in the power of nature to address the following challenges:
A need for the opportunity to experience and enjoy the benefits of nature for at-promise-youth
A need for diversity in the park profession and multilingual materials and culturally relevant programming by people of color
A need for support for senior citizens to stay active and healthy in the outdoors
A need for access to nature for those living with disabilities
A need for naturopathy programs for reentering adults looking to heal in nature
Saved By Nature addresses this lack of services by connecting at-promise-youth, senior citizens, and those living with disability to nature.
We’re making our parks and open spaces more welcoming to everyone by providing a cohesive system of support for the entire community to ensure they have high quality, multilingual and multicultural outdoor nature experiences.
Our aspirations are to hire bilingual program leads and naturalists that are representative of the community and to share best practices with other organizations.
