About the Event
Join us for a relaxing hike at Don Edwards National Wildlife Refuge along the Alviso Slough! The nation's first wildlife refuge, Don Edwards is an oasis of wildlife nestled in a largely urban area. With fifteen different habitat types and an abundance of diverse wildlife, we are sure to see what makes Alviso Slough so special. This is a great opportunity for birdwatchers, where they can see plenty of waterfowl and shorebirds like ruddy ducks, lesser scaups, and bufflehead. We may also spot some threatened and endangered species, such as the salt marsh harvest mouse, the California Tiger Salamander, and vernal pool tadpole shrimp. We will be taking a brief hike at the New Chicago Marsh first and after a short drive will walk along the Pink Salt Pond in Alviso.
