Natural and Cultural Resource Interpreter/Volunteer Coordinator

Classification Details:

Natural and Cultural Resource Interpreter/Volunteer Coordinator – $4,000 per month.

Benefits available after 6 months of employment.

Job Description:

Researches, creates, plans, develops, and conducts interpretive programs on natural and cultural history and resource protection for school groups, community-based organizations, outdoor homeschool and the general public; represents Saved By Nature. Organizes youth or other groups for hiking, backpacking, kayaking, fishing, etc. Collects, identifies, and prepares natural materials for programs. Uses current technologies to prepare and develop printed media and website content. Helps coordinate special events and annual fundraiser festival. Assists with recruiting, training, evaluating, and leading volunteers and works along with volunteers assigned to help with interpretive programs and special events. Ensures the safety of program participants, volunteers, and staff.

 

Other Functions and Duties:

Performs administrative and other tasks and related duties as assigned. May oversee a part-time Natural & Cultural Resource Interpreter. Attends various environmental and social justice workshops and training programs. Helps create a plan for multilingual materials and culturally relevant programming in connection with the above duties. 

 

Minimum Qualifications:

Sufficient education, training and experience which demonstrates the ability to perform the above tasks and the possession and application of the following knowledge and abilities:

OR

Possession of a Bachelor's degree or significant coursework in interpretive studies, environmental studies, natural sciences, park management, or education is desirable and two (2) years of experience conducting research and preparing curriculum for presentations with an organization that provides educational, recreational, historical, or cultural related information to the public.

 

Possession of a valid California Driver's License upon appointment and ability to travel to various parks and preserves within the San Francisco Bay region.
